A welcome new addition to the core range. Ardbeg An Oa is singularly rounded, due in no small part to time spent in our newly established bespoke oak Gathering Vat where whiskies from several cask types – including; sweet Pedro Ximenez; spicy virgin charred oak; and intense ex-bourbon casks, amongst others – familiarise themselves with each other.
The result is a dram with smoky power, mellowed by a delectable, smooth sweetness. Hallmark Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate and aniseed are wrapped in smooth, silky butterscotch, black pepper and clove, before rising to an intense crescendo of flavour.
Non chill-filtered with a strength of 46.6% ABV.
Nose: Charred old tea chests, gunpowder tea, seaweed on a coastal bbq, clove oil, chamois leather, rock pools, lemon balm, soapy & peppery peat, pineapple chunks, ginger powder, salty smoked bacon crisps & liquorice.
Palate: Salty beef crisps, green chilli, aromatic black tea, sooty vanilla, toasted lemon rind, herbal lozenges, smoked sultana & raisin, ginger-mocha, lasting peppery sweet peat smoke.
Finish: Spicy and peppery with more notes of gunpowder tea, black liquorice, sooty pineapple, green chilli flakes, salty rock pools and toasted coffee beans.
Style wise somewhere in between the Auriverdes and the Kelpie and displaying classic Ardbeg smoke, fruit and spice in perfect harmony.
Nez: puissant, salin, il est à la fois riche et tout en fraîcheur
Bouche: une fois encore l’équilibre entre le gras et la fraîcheur est très juste
Finale: un épais nuage de cendre mêlé à une tonalité de chocolat noir à la menthe
